Week ending… November 13

Glad you’re here!!!

We all have so much to be thankful for this year. You are all so generous and kind to this little unorganized organization that is A Simple Faith. We do things like this on occasion but this year, it’s especially called for. Your church council has decided to donate a Thanksgiving blessing of $1,000 to each of the following charitable organizations who are close to our hearts:

Blue Skies Ministries
Canaan Recovery Foundation
Caring & Sharing
Family Life Ministries
Food for Thought
Habitat for Humanity
Haven House Mission
His Children / Sus Hijos in El Salvador
Salvation Army Local
Samaritan’s Purse

1Thessalonians 5:18

alexAlex Cardoza, the man in El Salvador whom Simple Faith has helped get through three years of college so he can teach English, will graduate in December.  I am putting two congratulations cards on the table in the lobby of the church.  Please sign and congratulate him as he will be so excited to hear from everyone!  There is also an envelope if you would like to contribute a few dollars to help him get started in his teaching career.  John will return to El Salvador December 1st and will deliver this to him.

Thank you!
Judy Skinner

prayerAN IDEA: When sending a prayer request, we’d love to include a picture of the person who needs prayer!  If you have one, we’ll publish it along with the request.  We’d also appreciate it if you’d write an update so our warriors know how things are progressing.  Thanks!

Darrell Barnhill came through his triple bypass surgery very well and hopes to be out of ICU soon.  Thanks so much for your prayers and please keep them coming!

Please pray for Joyce Ward.

She went to the Emergency Room at Sacred Heart with a migraine.  She was diagnosed with a brain tumor and swelling of the brain.  She was airlifted to Sacred Heart Pensacola for possible emergency surgery tonight.  If we receive updated information, we will let you know.  Thanks everyone.

PLEASE PRAY FOR RAIN!!!  Areas near my mother’s house in Chattanooga, i.e., Signal Mtn., and others, are raging fires!  Smoke is visible all over the area.  Also, counties in SC and NC are being evacuated.   My grandson, at Clemson, says smoke is in the air there.  We had such a beautiful October, warm, but, NO RAIN!  And none in sight, at this time.  I can appreciate more, now, after hearing about fires in the western part of the USA, but we need rain. I am just so sorry for their worries.  It could break out here anytime, since we have had fire warnings for weeks.

Also, the wife of my precious nephew, in Orlando, miscarried at 12 weeks.  Jennifer and Trey Lloyd.  This would have been their second child.  The entire family is heartsick, and they know God knows, but so disappointing after waiting and planning the time for child #2.

Prescription for Unhappiness

  1. Make little things bother you; don’t just let them, make them.
  2. Lose your perspective of things and keep it lost; don’t put first things first.
  3. Get yourself a good worry, worry about that which you cannot do anything about. Just worry.
  4. Be a perfectionist; condemn yourself, and others, for not achieving perfection.
  5. Be right; always right; perfectly right all the time. Be the only one who is right and be rigid about your rightness.
  6. Don’t trust or believe people or accept them at anything but their worst and weakest. Be suspicious, impute ulterior motives to them all the time.
  7. Always compare yourself unfavorably to others, which is the guarantee to instant misery.
  8. Take personally, with a chip on your shoulder, everything that happens to you that you don’t like.
  9. Don’t give yourself wholeheartedly or enthusiastically to anyone or anything.
  10. Make unhappiness the aim of your life, instead of bracing for life’s barbs with a sweet philosophy, and you are guaranteed to be unhappy for the rest of your days.

If you use this prescription regularly for a while, you will be guaranteed to be the most miserable creature God ever created.

it’s all good!

Sweet Henrietta’s Cake, cookies and beer battered bread were featured on the Today Show on November 7.  It was so exciting to be on the set and see how these shows actually happen.  It was also an experience of a lifetime to be asked to make this cake and other pastries especially for a national television network!  Our new cookbook “It’s All Good” was given to all of the hosts and producers at NBC.  It was also delivered to HGTV Magazine, New York Magazine, House Beautiful Magazine and Good Housekeeping Magazine, so we’re hoping to hear back from them.  Thank you all for the help and we love you!    Rick and Tina

If you haven’t gotten your copy of Rick and Tina Stanfield’s sweet little cookbook that tells a wonderful story, you can get it at Amazon by clicking on the book cover above.  Have a look!
