“The Traveling Twenties”

(AKA Random Acts of Kindness)
“The Beginning…”

It started one day with an eye-opening realization. Not everyone had enough to eat or a friend or smile or heat or even a place to lay their head at night. Everyone was different. Everyone was in need and some were in need more than others. Twenties found their way into some very interesting adventures when they were put into the hands of those who cared but were unable to do. Those people then put twenties into the hands of those who saw but didn’t have twenties to give.  When hearts say help and God says move, adventures are soon to follow!!!

Traveling Twenties Adventure #2

Lunch was delicious and on leaving I wanted to take a picture but the camera on my phone seemed stuck on taking a selfie. Standing there in the parking lot, probably looking frustrated, a tall man with a back pack and a tent approached me. I knew it was a tent because I had bought one for another man six years ago.

He said, “Can I help you? I know phones pretty well.”

I said, “New phone, I can’t figure it out.”

He said “Let me help you.” He took the phone and started pushing buttons. We have a great picture of the two of us. He was friendly and finally after a few minutes I could take the picture I wanted.

I said, “Thanks, where ya going?” Thinking maybe we could give him a ride.

He said, “Oh I’m homeless and someone just gave me this tent.” During our recent cold snap, it would certainly help keep him protected from the wind. His smile was huge. He had been very friendly when helping me but he was so excited at the gift of this tent. He showed us the package and we all smiled and admired it. We said thank you so much for your help with our phone. Someone at our church has given us something to give to you. He looked confused but came to the car. A “Traveling Twenty” went into his hand. Go get something hot to eat we said. He laughed and said,  “Thank you oh so much.”

Tonight he would have a full stomach and a warm place to rest. He was near the homeless group in Destin, a place where they share what they have and live in community.

Through these humble words, I sincerely want to thank you immensely for the mini iPad, but especially, for the money you sent me as a gift for my graduation.  My family and I appreciate your generosity since El Salvador is a country where money is very difficult to obtain.

God will always bless your families!

There’s still time!
The El Salvador team would like to send a HUGE thank you to the family from our ASF faith community that donated $2500 to our project!  This will enable us to build one home during our time there. Your love is most appreciated.
Our team will be leaving for Sus Hijos in El Salvador on February 7.  We will spend the week building at least one house, visiting the orphanages and children’s prisons and will be feeding the homeless, to name a few of the things that we will do.
We are looking for volunteers to go with us and help us with this ministry.  We don’t have the cost as of yet but it will be around $700 plus airfare.  It depends on how many people are going and how many houses we want to build.
If you are interested, please contact Barbara Tape……barbara@digitalpark.com…….If you feel led to go with us and do not have the funds there will be some scholarship money available to help out.
More details will follow as our plans progress.

20,000 Days and Counting: The Crash Course for Mastering Your Life Right Now by Robert D. Smith

The day for change is today and it’s more simple than you realize.

51uisw4x6pl-_sx326_bo1204203200_Most people sleepwalk through day-to-day life, passively letting time slip away.  Unfortunately, the only thing that can usually wake people up to the intensity of life is impending death.  But what if it didn’t have to be that way?  20,000 Days presents breathtakingly simple strategies and concepts that, once applied, will enable readers to be 100% present and intentional with every passing minute of every day, for the rest of their lives.

The book is designed to be read in under an hour and the effect is immediate.  Within each segment are tactics for mastering control for your life; principles such as:

    Motivation is a myth

You only have two choices, yes and no

    How to conquer rejection forever

How BECOMING the problem will SOLVE all your problems

Three sentences that will change your life immediately

These timeless principles apply to everyone from the pending graduate to the seasoned business professional; from the time-starved parent to the weary pastor to the restless entrepreneur.

On the 20,000th day of his life, the author sent an email that inspired and reminded a group of people of all ages to live in the moment.  This group now includes you.

I have a prayer request from Erica Miller who previously worked in the nursery at ASF.  Her good friend Crystal Eads, age 37, has just been diagnosed with Endometrial Carcinoma. There are 2 types and both are very aggressive.  Crystal recently underwent a full hysterectomy and more tests to determine what types of chemo she will need ASAP.  She will find out more tomorrow.  Some of you may remember a little girl named Chloe that came to church with Erica – Chloe was adopted by Crystal a few years ago and is now 8 years old.  They all desperately need prayers.  The prognosis for this type of cancer is not good.  I will continue to keep you updated as I find out more information.

My son, Chris McCaslin is suffering from a major back injury and will have an injection procedure for two herniated disks.  Please pray that this will bring him relief and wellness from the pain.  Please pray for Chris McCaslin in Little Rock, Arkansas!  The procedure is at 7:00 a.m. Friday.
In addition, They are having snow in Little Rock too! Pray for his safety to and from the hospital.
Thank you to all our believers.

The good news…after the scan and MRI of my brother John, they didn’t find cancer in any organs or brain.  They did though verify the Cleveland Clinic diagnosis of Poorly Differentiated Thyroid Cancer. More tests scheduled.

Thanks to everyone for the prayers.  We’d appreciate it if you would keep them coming.

Much love,

Jeff Allen

Please pray for Jimmy Brown – he is the father of my great friends that attend ASF – Gloria and Shawn Buice.  He was down for the holidays and had some health complications and had to be hospitalized.  It looks like he will be here for a longer period.  He is a diabetic and that always complicates everything.  We are praying for a full recovery.
