Week ending…January 29

this week…..

It’s that time again!!

Beginning Sunday, January 15, we will have two morning worship services
to accommodate our winter attendance.

8:30 and 10:00.
(There will be no childcare or children’s church for the 8:30 service)

WE NEED YOUR HELP!  If you are planning on attending the 8:30 service and would like to help serve COMMUNION, please contact Barbara Tape at barbara@digitalpark.com for information.  We still need servers for March.

“The Traveling Twenties”

(AKA Random Acts of Kindness)
“The Beginning…”

It started one day with an eye-opening realization. Not everyone had enough to eat or a friend or smile or heat or even a place to lay their head at night. Everyone was different. Everyone was in need and some were in need more than others. Twenties found their way into some very interesting adventures when they were put into the hands of those who cared but were unable to do. Those people then put twenties into the hands of those who saw but didn’t have twenties to give.  When hearts say help and God says move, adventures are soon to follow!!!

Traveling Twenties Adventure #3:     TRYING TO GET BACK TO NEW JERSEY

20-wingsNeeds come in all shapes and sizes. Usually we see only one or two people on the side of te road. While driving through the Publix parking lot, 3 children of varying sizes and ages with 2 adults were standing in the grass near the building and the driveway, attracted our attention. The children, 5yrs through 9yrs, were talking to each other, exploring their surroundings under the watchful eye of their mother while their father held the sign. They were stranded.

A “twenty” would not get them back to New Jersey but it might buy dinner and the chocolate bars seemed to delight the children. Do we want to do more? Yes of course…but sometimes all we can do is pray, give a twenty and a candy bar.

WATCH FOR ADVENTURE #4 coming next week!

South Walton Cold-Weather Shelter
Team Members Needed:
When the temperatures drop below 40 degrees, Walton County’s Emergency Management Department opens a cold-weather shelter in the back room of the Coastal Branch Library for individuals who may need a warm place to sleep. Various churches sponsor one night of the week to feed and host the guests on these cold nights. Destin Methodist transports the guests from Destin. Red Cross has provided cots and blankets. The number of guests usually ranges from 5-25/night.
If you would like to join one of the other church’s teams, a few volunteers are needed for the Sunday night team (Immanuel Anglican Church) or the Thursday night team (Impact Life Church). A Simple Faith may like to assemble a team of their own for Monday, Wednesday or Saturday nights. Or individuals could be placed on an “as-needed” volunteer list.
For more information or to be added to the volunteer list, please email Allison Yii at yiinumber3@gmail.com. Thank you!

The purpose of MENTORS is to recruit volunteers to join with us as mentors in South Walton. There is currently no mentoring program in Walton County Schools. There are many great programs outside of the school system but many of the children most in need of a mentor do not participate in any outside activities or programs. The teachers and staff are great at what they do but cannot mentor all of the children in need. So that’s where YOU come in! Typically you will only need to volunteer 30 minutes of your time, one day a week to mentor a child who needs a positive adult influence in their life. If you have even the slightest interest in becoming a mentor, please email me at Mentorsouthwalton@yahoo.com

can we talk???

There’s still time!
The El Salvador team would like to send a HUGE thank you to the family from our ASF faith community that donated $2500 to our project!  This will enable us to build one home during our time there. Your love is most appreciated.
Our team will be leaving for Sus Hijos in El Salvador on February 7.  We will spend the week building at least one house, visiting the orphanages and children’s prisons and will be feeding the homeless, to name a few of the things that we will do.
We are looking for volunteers to go with us and help us with this ministry.  We don’t have the cost as of yet but it will be around $700 plus airfare.  It depends on how many people are going and how many houses we want to build.
If you are interested, please contact Barbara Tape……barbara@digitalpark.com…….If you feel led to go with us and do not have the funds there will be some scholarship money available to help out.
This is the house that we will be rebuilding:

The Signature of Jesus: The Call to a Life Marked by Holy Passion and Relentless Faith by 51pdchtxczl-_sx308_bo1204203200_Brennan Manning

The Signature of Jesus challenges the gospel of “cheap grace” and calls the church to radical discipleship. With passion and boldness, author Brennan Manning invites readers to risk living life as Jesus lived – committed to simplicity, purity of heart, and obedience to the gospel.

I have a prayer request from Erica Miller who previously worked in the nursery at ASF.  Her good friend Crystal Eads, age 37, has just been diagnosed with Endometrial Carcinoma. There are 2 types and both are very aggressive.  Crystal recently underwent a full hysterectomy and more tests to determine what types of chemo she will need ASAP.  She will find out more tomorrow.  Some of you may remember a little girl named Chloe that came to church with Erica – Chloe was adopted by Crystal a few years ago and is now 8 years old.  They all desperately need prayers.  The prognosis for this type of cancer is not good.  I will continue to keep you updated as I find out more information.

My son, Chris McCaslin is suffering from a major back injury and will have an injection procedure for two herniated disks.  Please pray that this will bring him relief and wellness from the pain.  Please pray for Chris McCaslin in Little Rock, Arkansas!  The procedure is at 7:00 a.m. Friday.
In addition, They are having snow in Little Rock too! Pray for his safety to and from the hospital.
Thank you to all our believers.

The good news…after the scan and MRI of my brother John, they didn’t find cancer in any organs or brain.  They did though verify the Cleveland Clinic diagnosis of Poorly Differentiated Thyroid Cancer. More tests scheduled.

Thanks to everyone for the prayers.  We’d appreciate it if you would keep them coming.

Much love,

Jeff Allen

Please pray for Jimmy Brown – he is the father of my great friends that attend ASF – Gloria and Shawn Buice.  He was down for the holidays and had some health complications and had to be hospitalized.  It looks like he will be here for a longer period.  He is a diabetic and that always complicates everything.  We are praying for a full recovery.
