HELP WANTED: We need some people to train as alternate sound booth people. You will be trained so that in case of illness or emergency, we have people who can stand in for Bobby Rains.
Due to technical issues, recent recordings of our services have been unavailable. We are resolving an issue with our cameras and recording equipment and, once resolved, we’ll be back online. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.
Here’s a beautiful example of one of Nancy’s lower flower arrangements! Great job, Nancy!
Nancy McConnell needs some pretty flower vases to use on the Lord’s Table. She has moved the table to the front, center, so she will be making lower flower arrangements. She only has tall vases. Vases need to vary because she never knows what size and height flowers are going to be available at Public each Sunday morning.
I am now making some recycled art with bottle caps – if you would like to help out – just bring your collected caps to church from time to time.

“The Traveling Twenties”
(AKA Random Acts of Kindness)
It started one day with an eye-opening realization. Not everyone had enough to eat or a friend or smile or heat or even a place to lay their head at night. Everyone was different. Everyone was in need and some were in need more than others. Twenties found their way into some very interesting adventures when they were put into the hands of those who cared but were unable to do. Those people then put twenties into the hands of those who saw but didn’t have twenties to give. When hearts say help and God says move, adventures are soon to follow!!!
Adventure 10: The Many Faces of Homelessness
We have told you about the altered reality of some of the homeless we have come across. Their reality, while different from ours, is as real to them as ours is real to us and often they cannot be convinced of any other. They live their lives in a state of confusion or simplicity. It can be both at the same time. They have a world that is different and sometimes our world enters theirs in a pleasant way with $20’s or in a sci-fi way with monsters and hatred from those who do not understand and therefore think of them as an enemy or something to be scorned and dismissed.
There are other kinds of homelessness that we may not know. Sicknesses such as PTSD in homeless VETs can cause such disruption in families, the person is asked to leave. Having no one, they end up on the street trying to justify simply being alive while their friends are not. They are covering a moral injury you will never see. It is almost better to have a visible injury so that people can pity you than one hidden inside. We cannot know the pain they are going through. And that would be true for others fighting their inner demons as it is for some Veterans.
Not being able to work because of a visible handicap makes it easier to pity the person asking for help on the corner. The problem may not be only financial but familial. Some need not only financial help but someone or group to take care of them. When we started helping we became aware of a large group of men sleeping in cars some with their sons all together. They live in their cars and eat together and most have jobs but the cost of living is too great to be on their own. So they share resources in this outside camp of cars. They are together and have work to go to, but realize they cannot afford housing so they share. They are a large extended family that watch over each other and even help each other when the need arises.
We have mentioned families. Homelessness can often occur from disruptions in families. Divorce, disagreements, bankruptcy and just plain living pay check to pay check can all be causes of homelessness. We became aware of a family where the father had a job but the family had been staying with his parent. A disagreement arose over the father’s girlfriend and the father’s mother threw the family out. So while he had a job and the girlfriend had a job, they had no home for themselves and the 4 children and they were brought to work where we found them and gave them assistance. Families living in someone else’s home are still homeless. This is called secondary homeless.
Whenever a child is thrown out of a home and they find a place to live in a friend’s home they are still homeless. It is still the idea of loss they must feel and we wonder if they ever lose that feeling or if it follows them forever.
Homelessness does not have to be a permanent state but sometimes the people staying in a car while their daughter is in the hospital in another state and they are already at the poverty level and cannot afford a hotel are still homeless even if it is for a month.
Homelessness cannot always be solved with a $20 either. It needs to solved with homes and services for those in need.

Small Graces: The Quiet Gifts of Everyday Life by Ken Nerburn
In twenty elegant pieces, writer, sculptor, and theologian Kent Nerburn celebrates the daily rituals that reveal our deeper truths. A companion piece to Kent Nerburn’s book Simple Truths, Small Graces is a journey into the sacred moments that illuminate our everyday lives. Through the exploration of simple acts, he reminds us to chart a course each day that nourishes the soul, honors the body, and engages the mind. Small Graces asks us to observe life’s quiet rhythms, the subtle shifts in perception and changes in light, the warm comfort of family voices; to feel the blessing of birdsong, the solitude of a falling leaf, the echo of footfall in snow-covered woods. By inviting us to recognize the hidden power of the ordinary, Small Graces reveals the mystical alchemy of the mundane made profound by the artistry of a well-lived life.

Mentor – Become a mentor to a child in South Walton County today!
Hilda McDonald had semi-emergency surgery yesterday to remove her most recent knee replacement. It had become contaminated with a bacterial infection. The surgery went well. After a few days she will be at physical rehab, will return home, and after all infection is resolved have a new knee replacement. Please remember her in your prayers.
I’d like to thank our Simple Faith family for their prayers and well wishes for my mother-in-law Grace Losapio. Mom’s surgery was a success, and she is now in rehab, working hard and looking forward to going back to her assisted living apartment.
Thank you all, in Christ’s Love,
Please put my very good friend Jay and her husband for strength on our prayer list for God to look over her and bless both of them with healing. She found out today she has throat cancer. Still awaiting one more test to see if it has moved to other glands to see if she will elect surgery or treatments. She’s a great lady and does so much for so many, and never complains. She fought breast cancer and won, please pray she will concur and win once again.

The Communion Cup
As I stood staring down at the communion cup in my hand I saw the cup full to the rim almost overflowing with a rich red color, the color of a royal, bright blood.
Then the people came and dipped into the cup and soon I felt the strength of that bright red blood ebbing away, life declining ever so slowly. But then I looked up into the face of an old man and a middle- aged woman. I saw life in their faces, their cheeks flushed bright and glowing as they drank from the cup.
I saw life, my Christ’s life, transferring, transforming I saw the transference of life and then the transformation.
As my life was draining away the lives of so many others were flourishing so deep in love with life and all that their lives could be. Although the cup was empty it was still full, as though my life was gone but the lives of so many others were full.
I saw clearly how His blood is our blood, how his life is our life now.
If you want to experience the flow of our Christ’s life, serve communion some Sunday – it will change your life! If you want to feel as our Lord did, serve communion – Your life will be deeply enriched!
