Week ending June 25

this week:

A great, and hearty thank you to Terry Olive who has served on our council from A Simple Faith’s inception. He has recently made the decision to step away from this responsibility.  He writes, “It is time for me to slow and step down from many activities. It has been my pleasure to serve God by serving the people of A Simple Faith Church.” Additionally, Michael and Laura Granberry will be assuming Terry and Dianne’s former role as greeters (and coordinating greeters).

I hope you will join me in thanking Terry and Dianne for all they have done, and for all they will continue to do, here at A Simple Faith.

Ronnie and the entire ASF community

“The Traveling Twenties”

(AKA Random Acts of Kindness)

“The Beginning…”

It started one day with an eye-opening realization. Not everyone had enough to eat or a friend or smile or heat or even a place to lay their head at night. Everyone was different. Everyone was in need and some were in need more than others. Twenties found their way into some very interesting adventures when they were put into the hands of those who cared but were unable to do. Those people then put twenties into the hands of those who saw but didn’t have twenties to give.  When hearts say help and God says move, adventures are soon to follow!!!

Adventure 11:  Wheelchair Help

We were getting ready to turn left on and we were on a one-way street so it wasn’t wrong to see someone on that side of the road… it was just not normal. But there she sat. Her wheelchair had seen better days and so had she. One stub of a leg stuck out of her clothes on one side and no leg stuck out of the other and we wondered how she smiled at all the cars passing her by. A tall man stood next to her talking to her. They did not go together and we wondered if he just stopped by to talk or was on his way as we came up but we had no time to talk so we called him over and two twenties left to go to two souls on the side of the road. One in a wheelchair home and one just stopping by to talk and help her get some support.

Update: Last Saturday was the last one for rural relief!  We will no longer need donations or volunteers.

Can we talk???

Souvenirs of Solitude: Finding Rest in Abba’s Embrace by Brennan Manning

“Silence and solitude are precious commodities in my life. My restless self finds peace only when I rest in God.” ―Brennan Manning

Whether we find solitude in a quiet and secluded retreat setting, on a park bench in the midst of a bustling city, seated in a 747 at 30,000 feet, or while pausing at our kitchen window, the call of solitude is a gentle but insistent tug on our hearts. We long, in these moments, to go deeper with God. We pause to wait on Him in silence. But sometimes we’d like a wise guide who can help us with this practice. In his honest, original, and winning way, beloved author and retreat leader Brennan Manning shares his wisdom, stories, and heart from his own experiences in solitude. Brennan’s meditations will prompt your own pursuit of God in the quiet places of your life.

Souvenirs of Solitude includes an eight-day retreat guide that provides stimulating promptings for your own meditation during solitude. Whether you use all eight or only an entry or two, you’ll find these exercises a refreshing breather from everyday concerns.

_____

Mary and Tony Burger are dear friends of mine from Atlanta and always attend ASF when they are in town. Tony has been admitted to a hospital in Atlanta with a blood clot in his leg along with an infection and a possible blood clot in his lung.

We are asking for prayers for him and his entire family during this time and that he will make a full recovery.

Thank you,
Carolyn Brown

_____

Please pray for Bob James’ mom/my mother in law, Maryanne James. She is approaching 91, and has had two eye surgeries in 6 months. As of the second surgery, she is totally blind. Please pray she regains her sight. She lives alone and all three children are hours away. We are all trying to figure out affordable, dependable care. She is very strong willed… both a blessing and a curse:)

Please pray for her three children, Bob, Judith, & Glenn… they need every prayer you can imagine, as this time is very stressful on family relations. I’ll take a prayer or two myself, as I’m always “Looking for the Pony.”

Please pray boldly for Maryanne James and her family. Much appreciated!

Lorre James

Hilda McDonald had semi-emergency surgery yesterday to remove her most recent knee replacement. It had become contaminated with a bacterial infection. The surgery went well. After a few days she will be at physical rehab, will return home, and after all infection is resolved have a new knee replacement.  Please remember her in your prayers.

I’d like to thank our Simple Faith family for their prayers and well wishes for my mother-in-law Grace Losapio. Mom’s surgery was a success, and she is now in rehab, working hard and looking forward to going back to her assisted living apartment.

Thank you all, in Christ’s Love,
Jackie Losapio

_____

Please put my very good friend Jay and her husband for strength on our prayer list for God to look over her and bless both of them with healing. She found out today she has throat cancer. Still awaiting one more test to see if it has moved to other glands to see if she will elect surgery or treatments. She’s a great lady and does so much for so many, and never complains. She fought breast cancer and won, please pray she will concur and win once again.
