Happy birthday,  ASF!

The 1st Sunday in August will be our 10th anniversary of the 1st service at ASF!

WEEK 1:  Ronnie has uploaded new audio to his website. It is a talk delivered July 9, 2017, entitled “Back to the Future.” It is part 1 of a 4-part series. Back to the Future: Part 1

ASF was conceived around a table! Ten to twelve people sat around Michael and Cheryl Belk’s dining room table in Watercolor.  We talked about forming a new church, Melissa Davis asked Ronnie if he thought he would have time to do the job because he had so many irons in the fire at that time, we prayed, joined hands, and sang “Bind Us Together” with Billy McConnell playing guitar and decided to do it, not realizing it would happen that coming Sunday! The Regions Bank building was available, so the next day, it was a go. We were called “The Lawn Chair Group”, but more accurately, it should have been “Beach Chair”. Bill Evett was with us then, too, adding another guitar and singer.

A Short Midsummer Study!

We have a special guest for a short 2-week study on The Book of Revelation. Our speaker is Dr Shawn Buice. He is a professor of New Testament and Greek. We meet on Wednesday at Simple Faith at 10 a.m.- 11:30. The second session will be July 19th.  All are welcome to learn and study on this amazing chapter that gives us insight to God’s plan for the new heaven and the new earth. Bring your Bible!

“The Traveling Twenties”

(AKA Random Acts of Kindness)

“The Beginning…”

It started one day with an eye-opening realization. Not everyone had enough to eat or a friend or smile or heat or even a place to lay their head at night. Everyone was different. Everyone was in need and some were in need more than others. Twenties found their way into some very interesting adventures when they were put into the hands of those who cared but were unable to do. Those people then put twenties into the hands of those who saw but didn’t have twenties to give.  When hearts say help and God says move, adventures are soon to follow!!!

Adventure 12:  A Diamond in the Rough

If we hadn’t needed to stop at a restroom, we would have gone down the road a little further. And if we hadn’t needed gas we would have gone to our normal gas station and never met the young lady stranded in her old van with her 10-year-old daughter named Diamond.

She was directed to the window of our car when one of us heard her ask the person going into the store if he had a couple dollars for gas. Upon seeing the twenty, her eyes filled and her mouth bubbled over with what had happened.

Her father threw her mom and Diamond out and they slept in the van and had no gas and didn’t know what to do. Hugs and thanks were given and we requested to see her daughter. Another twenty flew to the daughter’s hand and mom said, “now you can get a drink.”

It broke our hearts to think of how long they had been thirsty or hungry. Another twenty and the number of the homeless worker were given to help this young mother and her sweet Diamond.

Hallelujah Anyway: Rediscovering Mercy by Anne Lamott

From the author of Help, Thanks, Wow and Bird by Bird, a powerful exploration of mercy and how we can embrace it.

“Mercy is radical kindness,” Anne Lamott writes in her enthralling and heartening book, Hallelujah Anyway. It’s the permission you give others—and yourself—to forgive a debt, to absolve the unabsolvable, to let go of the judgment and pain that make life so difficult.

In Hallelujah Anyway: Rediscovering Mercy Lamott ventures to explore where to find meaning in life. We should begin, she suggests, by “facing a great big mess, especially the great big mess of ourselves.” It’s up to each of us to recognize the presence and importance of mercy everywhere—”within us and outside us, all around us”—and to use it to forge a deeper understanding of ourselves and more honest connections with each other. While that can be difficult to do, Lamott argues that it’s crucial, as “kindness towards others, beginning with myself, buys us a shot at a warm and generous heart, the greatest prize of all.”

Full of Lamott’s trademark honesty, humor and forthrightness, Hallelujah Anyway is profound and caring, funny and wise—a hopeful book of hands-on spirituality.

George McCaulley has been readmitted to the hospital today with anemia and bronchitis. This follows the shoulder joint replacement he had earlier in the week. Continued prayer would be most appreciated.

Please pray for Ruth Faur, Cyndi Talty’s stepmom. She was taken to emergency with heart issues and they believe it is an AFIB but are keeping her for observation to be sure. Thanks so much.

Please add my dear friend Dixie Burge to the prayer list.  She worked with me at FES.  She just found out she has Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and has immediately started chemo.
