Luke and Acts

Begins August 30th.
Simple Faith Church, Wednesday’s 10:00-11:30 a.m.

Explorer’s Bible Study, incorporates a DVD lesson and workbook discussion questions. Cost of materials is $24.00

All are welcome!

Come join us as we study the 2 Books written by the only
Gentile writer of the Bible.

Of all of Paul’s friends, there may have been no other more dearer than Luke.  Luke, a physician, was a man of culture, careful intelligence and of a very tender and sympathetic heart.  He loved Jesus and served Him with his whole heart.  The first 12 lessons will be in the Gospel of Luke.  In Acts, we will study of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and grow more and more in the knowledge of Who the Holy Spirit is. This is not only a study of the History of the church forming but a study of how the Holy Spirit works through us as believers today.  A transforming and life changing study of God’s Word.

“The Traveling Twenties”
(AKA Random Acts of Kindness)

“The Beginning…”

It started one day with an eye-opening realization. Not everyone had enough to eat or a friend or smile or heat or even a place to lay their head at night. Everyone was different. Everyone was in need and some were in need more than others. Twenties found their way into some very interesting adventures when they were put into the hands of those who cared but were unable to do. Those people then put twenties into the hands of those who saw but didn’t have twenties to give.  When hearts say help and God says move, adventures are soon to follow!!!

Adventure 15:

While sitting at a popular chain restaurant, a man approached our table to ask for some spare cash. We were sitting with a dear friend who was very approachable but he had no money and shook his head sadly. The man’s countenance fell and his shoulders drooped as he moved away totally ignoring us at the table.

One of us jumped up to go to the car to get the twenty and as he watched one of us leave he got very scared. “I don’t want to get in any trouble so l’ll leave,” he said, and he started to go. We tried to reassure him it was OK. Just follow him as he is going to help you, not report you. He was very worried, but received the twenties to go see his sick father now that he could get a bus ticket.

You may wonder why he was so picky about who he asked and why he was afraid of being reported. He was in his mid-twenties, heavily tattooed, especially around his mouth. He could have been considered scary but he was the one who was scared and we felt his panic. Twenties don’t worry about those things, they just serve the Lord.

Please add my cousin Wanda Stilwell and her husband Ray Stillwell to the prayer list.  My cousin Wanda, age 60, has early onset Alzheimer’s.  Her caretaker is her husband Ray.  Ray was involved in a terrible motorcycle accident on Friday in Cleveland, TN and he is in very critical condition at Erlanger Hospital.  My cousin will probably end up going into a long-term home care system.  I know she is very scared, confused, and mad all at the same time.  It has been sad for the family to see her mind deteriorate and she will have to be cared for by people she doesn’t even know which will only complicate everything further. 🙁

Thank you,

Cindy McBrayer

Please pray boldly!  Philip and Linda Singleton’s son Ashley had a 4-wheeler accident yesterday afternoon.  He has a blood clot on the front of his head which hopefully will dissolve.  The problem is spinal fluid blood… no way to drain, no way to repair and is life threatening. Prayers please for him to survive.  They don’t know how much damage to his brain was done or his spine.  He will be a minimum of 6 weeks in ICU in a trauma unit in Columbus, GA.  Please pray for Ashley and his new baby 7 weeks old and his precious wife Natalie.

UPDATE ON ASHLEY SINGLETON

Praise and thank you God and thank you for all your prayers. Moved Ashley to Shepard Center in Atlanta and we are very happy because they will work his brain and put him through therapy to get him as far as possible, which we expect to be almost perfect because of what he has already done with God ‘s Miracles.

Things are looking up and all Miracles of God so far got him this far because he has had no specific therapy. Thank you for your prayers… they are working. We will have an update on his improvement.

____________

Please pray for my father Don and mother Kate as they transition to assisted living at Grand Boulevard.  My dad started rehab after a stay in the hospital July 4th weekend.  Don has Parkinson’s and requires daily assistance.  Kate is very active and will be looking for new activities (such as card playing) to make new friends.  They have moved from St. Petersburg, where they lived very close to my brother, Kris and his girlfriend, Cindy.  Please pray for all of us, as we all adjust to the new living situation for my parents.

Blessings, Kevin and Denise Simonsen

Scotty’s second round of chemo begins this week. Please continue to keep Scotty in your prayers as he makes it though this month’s phase. This is the most abrasive phase since his initial treatment.

5 rounds of chemo, 4 blood transfusions, 2 platelet transfusion, 2 cryoprecipitate transfusions, 2 bone marrow biopsies, 3 spinal taps, 2 weeks in the hospital & 19 blood withdraws. Scotty is officially in FULL REMISSION!!!!!! We will now spend the next 3 1/2 years keeping this beast of a disease at bay. Thank You Sacred Heart and Nemours for all the wonderful care.  WHO SAYS PRAYERS DON’T WORK?  Let’s all continue encircling Scotty with prayer!
