HURRICANE RELIEF – HURRICANE PREPARATION
A Simple Faith Family,
Thank you for your generosity in giving to Hurricane Harvey Relief. Beyond the $7,500 that we sent last week to Texas, on Sunday you gave an additional $2,500 designated for this project. We will send these donations along. In regards to volunteers going to Texas, those plans remain in place. We have been placed in the queue line to travel to the Houston area and will keep you up to date.
However…Attention has now turned to Hurricane Irma.
This could be an historic storm, and as of this writing, it will certainly impact the Florida Peninsula. As disappointing as this is, our relief efforts may have to be directed closer to home. We will monitor this closely.
On this point, if I might dust off my Habitat for Humanity hat from years ago, please make preparations now for possible impacts here on the Emerald Coast. Secure your supplies. Secure your home. Know your evacuation route. Follow helpful checklists and local directives from Walton County available at www.co.walton.fl.us/1063/Emergency-Management. And if an evacuation order is issued – follow it.
If you are unable to evacuate (should that need arise) or if you cannot safety prepare your home for storm impacts, contact me directly. There are several people in our church who are ready, able, and eager to help if they can – but you cannot receive help if we don’t know you need it.
Contact me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org or (850) 635-5235.

All are welcome!
Come join us as we study the 2 Books written by the only Gentile writer of the Bible.
Of all of Paul’s friends, there may have been no other more dearer than Luke. Luke, a physician, was a man of culture, careful intelligence and of a very tender and sympathetic heart. He loved Jesus and served Him with his whole heart. The first 12 lessons will be in the Gospel of Luke. In Acts, we will study of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and grow more and more in the knowledge of Who the Holy Spirit is. This is not only a study of the History of the church forming but a study of how the Holy Spirit works through us as believers today. A transforming and life changing study of God’s Word.
and, beginning september 6…
A study of the book of Revelation begins Wednesday, September 6th at A Simple Faith. The class will be led by Art Pierce, and will meet each Wednesday at noon directly following the 10:00 bible class. All are welcome to attend.
“The Traveling Twenties”
(AKA Random Acts of Kindness)
It started one day with an eye-opening realization. Not everyone had enough to eat or a friend or smile or heat or even a place to lay their head at night. Everyone was different. Everyone was in need and some were in need more than others. Twenties found their way into some very interesting adventures when they were put into the hands of those who cared but were unable to do. Those people then put twenties into the hands of those who saw but didn’t have twenties to give. When hearts say help and God says move, adventures are soon to follow!!!
While sitting at a popular chain restaurant, a man approached our table to ask for some spare cash. We were sitting with a dear friend who was very approachable but he had no money and shook his head sadly. The man’s countenance fell and his shoulders drooped as he moved away totally ignoring us at the table.
One of us jumped up to go to the car to get the twenty and as he watched one of us leave he got very scared. “I don’t want to get in any trouble so l’ll leave,” he said, and he started to go. We tried to reassure him it was OK. Just follow him as he is going to help you, not report you. He was very worried, but received the twenties to go see his sick father now that he could get a bus ticket.
You may wonder why he was so picky about who he asked and why he was afraid of being reported. He was in his mid-twenties, heavily tattooed, especially around his mouth. He could have been considered scary but he was the one who was scared and we felt his panic. Twenties don’t worry about those things, they just serve the Lord.
Adventure 16 coming soon!

Sinners in the Hands of a Loving God: The Scandalous Truth
of the Very Good News by Brian Zahnd
In his famous sermon “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” Puritan revivalist Jonathan Edwards shaped predominating American theology with a vision of God as angry, violent, and retributive. Three centuries later, Brian Zahnd was both mesmerized and terrified by Edwards’s wrathful God. Haunted by fear that crippled his relationship with God, Zahnd spent years praying for a divine experience of hell.
What Zahnd experienced instead was the Father’s love—revealed perfectly through Jesus Christ—for all prodigal sons and daughters.
In Sinners in the Hands of a Loving God, Zahnd asks important questions like: Is seeing God primarily as wrathful towards sinners true or biblical? Is fearing God a normal expected behavior? And where might the natural implications of this theological framework lead us?
Thoughtfully wrestling with subjects like Old Testament genocide, the crucifixion of Jesus, eternal punishment in hell, and the final judgment in Revelation, Zanhd maintains that the summit of divine revelation for sinners is not God is wrath, but God is love.

Mentor – Become a mentor to a child in South Walton County today!
Please include my wife, Lynny Conklin in your prayers. She has just had
neck surgery at Mayo and is in a lot of pain. Thank you.
Continue to pray for my friend John Howard who had the accident (tire explosion) while working at Butler Elementary. He called and said he is doing fair, but has a long road to recovery. He has had some surgeries in his mouth, but is still on a liquid diet and has lost 30 lbs. He also has had headaches daily. I know he appreciates all the prayers!
Please add Amber Elledge and her family to the prayer list. Amber and Erica facilitated our nursery at the church for years. Her brother died yesterday and his death is under investigation. He has a young son Xaiden who is celebrating his 5th birthday today, but does not know that his father had gone to be with Jesus yet.
Cindy L. McBrayer
Please add my cousin Wanda Stilwell and her husband Ray Stillwell to the prayer list. My cousin Wanda, age 60, has early onset Alzheimer’s. Her caretaker is her husband Ray. Ray was involved in a terrible motorcycle accident on Friday in Cleveland, TN and he is in very critical condition at Erlanger Hospital. My cousin will probably end up going into a long-term home care system. I know she is very scared, confused, and mad all at the same time. It has been sad for the family to see her mind deteriorate and she will have to be cared for by people she doesn’t even know which will only complicate everything further. 🙁
UPDATE ON ASHLEY SINGLETON
Praise and thank you God and thank you for all your prayers. Moved Ashley to Shepard Center in Atlanta and we are very happy because they will work his brain and put him through therapy to get him as far as possible, which we expect to be almost perfect because of what he has already done with God ‘s Miracles.
Things are looking up and all Miracles of God so far got him this far because he has had no specific therapy. Thank you for your prayers… they are working. We will have an update on his improvement.
If you’d like to follow Ashley’s progress on the Facebook page it’s called
Praying for Ashley

Update on Scotty
Scotty’s second round of chemo begins this week. Please continue to keep Scotty in your prayers as he makes it though this month’s phase. This is the most abrasive phase since his initial treatment.
