Week ending October 22

this weeK…

NOTICE: The 30A road closure (from Grayton Beach to Blue Mountain) will be in effect from October 23 through January 31.

HURRICANE RELIEF

The long-term plan for hurricane relief has shifted to Puerto Rico, which will take years to recover. Getting people, even supplies there, is nearly impossible right now. However, we have multiple contacts on the island and are staying connected. The Puerto Rico trip has been pushed back until the first of the year because the area we were going to has been quarantined because of water contamination.

In the short term, we will be assisting the Immokalee Community in Collier County, Florida. This is an agricultural community that suffered a good deal of hurricane damage. Mostly tenants and renters, their housing is going to be taken care of, but the Guadalupe Social Services program is in need of supplies. We will provide further information in the days ahead, and deliver a load of supplies to them.

Samaritans’ Purse Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is officially begun so please pick up a box or two and have a joyful time picking out the contents!😇 Please pray as you shop and you will find guidance from above on what to select.

UPDATE:

The plastic boxes with shipping label are $10.00 so shipping is prepaid. I have a limited number so try to pick them up this weekend after church on October 15.

Lots of cardboard boxes are left so please pick them up with a shipping label. Be sure to tape the shipping label on the box and secure with a rubber band which is also available at the table in the front hallway.

The packing party at Seagrove Baptist has been moved to Wednesday November 8 at 6pm.

All filled boxes need to be brought to Sunday November 12 at ASF Church service so we can pray over the boxes. Any questions call or text Nancy Gross 850-797-6926. Bless you for participating in this simple but powerful ministry.  Thanks!

Nancy

bible study!

Simple Faith Church, Wednesdays 10:00-11:30 a.m.

Explorer’s Bible Study, incorporates a DVD lesson and workbook discussion questions. Cost of materials is $24.00

All are welcome!

Come join us as we study the 2 Books written by the only Gentile writer of the Bible.

Of all of Paul’s friends, there may have been no other more dearer than Luke.  Luke, a physician, was a man of culture, careful intelligence and of a very tender and sympathetic heart.  He loved Jesus and served Him with his whole heart.  The first 12 lessons will be in the Gospel of Luke.  In Acts, we will study of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and grow more and more in the knowledge of Who the Holy Spirit is. This is not only a study of the History of the church forming but a study of how the Holy Spirit works through us as believers today.  A transforming and life changing study of God’s Word.

Any questions and to order a book:

second bible study

A study of the book of Revelation began Wednesday, September 6th at A Simple Faith. The class is led by Art Pierce, and meets each Wednesday at noon directly following the 10:00 bible class. All are welcome to attend.

Although the class began in September, there is no cut off time to attending the class. There is so much to learn and absorb about this incredible book of the Bible and anyone interested should feel free to join us at any point at noon on Wednesdays at ASF.

It’s Hard to Convince Your Children

It’s hard to convince your children that the church is the most important thing in the world when you are negligent about attending its services and supporting its work.

It’s hard to convince your children that the church is the greatest institution in the world when you permit them to miss services to go elsewhere.

It’s hard to convince your children that the church is to be held higher than anything when you insist that they do their homework for public school but permit them to neglect their Bible study.

It’s hard to convince your children that the church is the most important institution when you give little to help finance its work and encourage them to do likewise.

It’s hard to convince your children that they should respect the church when you continually criticize the leadership, belittle the teacher’s work and appear a habitual faultfinder.

It’s hard to convince your children the work of the church is important, when you have no part in what work is being done, either financially or personally.

It’s hard to convince your children sin is a serious matter when they know you do things that are wrong, and you are not concerned about making the necessary corrections in life.

It’s hard to convince there is really a heaven, and a hell, whey they realize that this life is the most important thing there is to you, and they don’t see you making much preparation for a life after death.

It’s hard to convince your children, when you don’t even try to convince them of much of anything — just let them do their thing.

READERS’ CORNER:

Lessons From a Third Grade Dropout by Rick Rigsby

Be inspired by the book behind the graduation speech by Dr. Rick Rigsby’s– now with 100 million views on Facebook and YouTube.

After his wife died, Rick Rigsby was ready to give up. The bare minimum was good enough. Rigsby was content to go through the motions, living out his life as a shell of himself. But then he remembered the lessons his father taught him years before – something insanely simple, yet incredibly profound.

These lessons weren’t in advanced mathematics or the secrets of the stock market. They were quite straightforward, in fact, for Rigsby’s father never made it through third grade. But if this uneducated man’s instructions were powerful enough to produce a Ph.D. and a judge – imagine what they can do for you.

Join Rigsby as he dusts off time-tested beliefs and finds brilliantly simple answers to modern society’s questions. In a magnificent testament to the “Greatest Generation” which gave so much and asked so little in return, Lessons from a Third Grade Dropout will challenge you while reigniting your passion to lead a truly fulfilling life. After all, it’s never too late to learn a little bit more about life – just ask the third-grade dropout.

Urgent prayers for Crystal!  She is an employee of Sacred Heart and a very good friend of Erica and Amber who watched ASF nursery for years.  Crystal has an adopted daughter Zoe that some of you may remember.  She is fighting cancer and had a 20-hour surgery this week.  Your prayers would be greatly appreciated.

I know many of you have been anxiously waiting for an update.

She’s not alone. Her Mama and Chris are with her.

She was more alert this morning, moving her limbs and eyelids more and actually realizing she’s on a vent.

She went back to the OR to have an Ileostomy put in and some of her colon had to be removed because one of the connections separated and feces was getting in her belly.

They washed her belly out with water and they will take her back to the OR on Wednesday to rewash her abdomen again, and change wound vac -this bag will likely be temporary.

They also debrided her wound in the OR, cutting away all dead tissue.

Kidney function is better, creatinine is 1.7. YAY! They’d like to see more urine output.

The goal is to try to extubate her on Wednesday.

Her b/p out of the OR was low but has since stabilized.

Because she so recently came from the OR they’ll monitor her closely, but right now they are optimistic with the things they’ve done to get her turned around and on a clean recovery. She has a long road ahead of her but she’s on the right path and in the best hands.

Please continue to pray for Chrystal and everyone involved in her care.
