SIMPLIFY, SIMPLIFY, SIMPLIFY!

In an attempt to simplify and streamline things, it has been decided that newsletters will now be sent out once a month instead of every week. If any upgrades are made you will be notified. Thanks!

WELCOME, Garet McHugh, our new addition to our ASF family!  We’re so happy to have you and your beautiful family here!

After living out his life in the Mid-West, Garet comes to us ready to adopt the Southern life, and become a part of the Simple Faith family. He began his journey as a youngster in the small farming community of Logan, IA, located in the West-Central part of the state. He grew up during the supremacy of Nebraska football in the 90’s, and is a big Husker fan (don’t hold that against him). At the age of 17, he attended a CIY (Christ In Youth) conference in Anderson, IN and it was there the he felt the call to go into ministry.

He attended Manhattan Christian College in Manhattan, KS where he received a B.S. in Bible & Youth Ministry in 2009, and he has spent the past 9 years serving at a variety of churches in Nebraska, Kentucky, and Indiana. Just recently he earned is M.A. in Ministry from Lincoln Christian Seminary in Lincoln, IL.

Garet and his wife, Erin, will celebrate their 6th anniversary in May. They have one strong, energy-filled son, Graeme, who will be turning 5 on May 11th, another son, Judah, who departed to be with Jesus in 2016, and are expecting another son, Samuel, in just a few weeks! They have two dogs, Rita & Ripley, a basset hound and lab-mix that round out their family.

Garet brings a passion for youth and families, and a heart that seeks to serve the Church locally, regionally, and globally. His mission is to be a conduit of Jesus—someone that points others to Jesus, and to be used by God for His glory.

A special invite for all A Simple Faith Ladies … you are all invited to an Open House BABY SHOWER honoring Erin McHugh on Sunday May 6th from 2-4PM at the home of Laura Granberry – located at 364 Gilmore Road in Point Washington 32459. Let’s get to know Erin and shower her with love as she and Garet prepare to welcome a baby boy in the coming month.

Prayers In The Storm:Resting in God’s Comfort and Care by Sandy Lynam Clough

As most of you know, my husband Larry has Alzheimer’s and recently broke his hip.  He is being discharged and will move into Brookdale Assisted Living this week.  Although it breaks my heart because I won’t have him at home, I take heart in all that Jesus has done for me.  Kim Ryals stopped by and gave me this lovely little book and wanted to share it with you. It has brought me comfort and inspiration.

Reaching out to others as only one who has suffered personal loss can, Sandy Lynam Clough creates a visual journey through pain, grief, and the assurance of God’s provision. Tender art, comforting Scriptures, and original prayers reassure the promise of God’s love in the midst of life’s storms.

Dear Friends,

Many of you may know that my wife Cindy and I founded ReNew late last year to respond to the devastation of the 2017 Hurricane Season. ReNew, a not-for-profit organization, has a threefold goal: 1) To mobilize individuals, churches, and groups to respond to disaster needs; 2) To localize aid, responding to individuals, families, and specific neighborhoods; and, 3) To stabilize the lives of those who have suffered loss.

This work has begun in earnest in the town of Caguas, Puerto Rico, with “Gosen Iglesia De La Familia” (the Gosen Family Church). Gosen is a Protestant, Pentecostal church with several hundred members (pre-hurricanes), pastored by Jésus and Julia Madera. The congregation conducted an extensive community-based ministry, and their building served as a major “service center.” ReNew is currently rebuilding Gosen’s building, and in turn, restoring their community-based ministries.

Rebuilding Gosen’s facility will involves the following major considerations:

  1. Raising $50,000 for building materials, in-territory labor, furnishing destroyed or looted, and execution of the project (a full Budget is available). This includes all necessary materials to restore Gosen’s worship space, educational wing, and administrative offices.
  2. Mobilizing and sending four to six construction teams to complete the work. If adequate volunteer teams cannot be mobilized, additional funds would have to be raised to pay in-territory contractors and /or builders.
  3. Time is of the essence, as the facility has been in shambles for months. It is impossible, in this condition, to minister effectively. Further, the 2018 Hurricane Season looms large on the near horizon. Ideally, the project will be completed by mid-summer 2018.

Here is what you can do:

Give. The Caguas project is reliant upon funding. All donations to ReNew for this project will be used for charitable purposes within the meaning of section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (Federal EIN: 82-2916148). Giving can be done by mailing a check to: Renew; 16400 Highway 331 South; Suite B2, Box 275; Freeport, Florida, 32439. You can also give by online means.

Go. Four to six teams are needed in Puerto Rico over the next six months. This translates to 50 – 100 people able to do tear-out, light construction, frame, paint, and be able to meet physically demands of a tropical monsoon climate. Contact Team Leaders John Skinner (jbs30a@gmail.com) or Al Stewart (alstewart13@bellsouth.net) to join a team.

Guide. Become a leader who will organize, recruit, coordinate and lead a mission team to Puerto Rico. This can be from your church, work, school, friends or family. ReNew will assist you in this process.

Thank you for giving and for going.

Additional information is always available at www.ReNewFlorida.org.
